Humane Society/HSPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic Has a Record Breaking Year in 2008!

The Humane Society Spay/Neuter Clinic broke its surgerical record, boasting over 9,000 surgeries in 2008. The record-breaking year saw a 30% increase in surgeries performed in 2007, when the Humane Society surgery totaled over 6,800.

In a year with a struggling economy, The Humane Society initiated innovative promotions to incent pet owners to sterilize their pets. Among the promotions were KittySnip – a free kitten spay/neuter promotion in Summer; Howlin’ for Halloween, a female cat spay promotion that partnered with Harvest Hope Food Bank charging five cans of people food in exchange for surgery; and Happy Howlidays which offered half price surgeries for both dogs and cats. All of the promotions were established with one thing in mind: prevention of over population of companion pets, an epidemic that keeps local shelters over-populated, and results in 20,000 pets euthanized per year in the Midland’s area alone.

“We are very proud of our accomplishments this year,” said Wayne Brennessel, CEO of the Humane Society. “With every surgery performed by the Humane Society spay/neuter clinic, we avoid literally thousands of incidence of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.”

Fairfield Five Dogs Ready for Adoption

Fairfield Five Dogs Ready for Adoption

This past summer, the Humane Society became involved in a case of five dogs that were taken into custody by the Fairfield County Animal Shelter. Deemed vicious, they were scheduled to be euthanized.

The Humane Society intervened when the Fairfield Animal Rescue (FAR) presented the case with evidence of mishandling and unwarranted judgment on the temperament of the dogs. After several weeks of negotiation, the dogs came into the care of the Humane Society. After five months of intensive rehabilitation and care, CC, Angle, Sport, Rascal and Hot Rod have made tremendous strides!

Under the care of the staff of Howlmore Pet Sanctuary they have become socialized, playful pets who would make a fabulous addition to a family home. Sport (pictured) has done so well he is now involved in agility training!

After a pardon of execution and a long road to recovery, all five are now ready for their forever home! Please help us find homes for these incredible dogs! Go to the Humane Society website for pictures and details at www.humanesc.org.

We Need Fosters and Forever Homes

We Need Fosters and Forever Homes

On occasion, the Humane Society becomes guardian of animals that have been seized for a variety of reasons. Once in the Humane Society’s care, these animals are rehabilitated and brought back to health. The pets in the custody of the Humane Society often are the victim of abuse/neglect situations, and wait for court proceedings to become available for adoption. In these instances, we need caring individuals who can foster such animals until we obtain custody and can find them a forever home.

The Humane Society is now in the care of five dogs that are in need of foster homes. They were seized along with the 45 horses in the Trexler case seizure. Three are approximately 6 months old and are a lab-mix. They are healthy, active and need foster parents who can give them the love and affection they deserve. There are two older females who were also seized in this case. They are approximately 4 to 5 years old and are lab-mix. Not as active, but needing love and attention!

The Humane Society is also the guardian of five dogs that are ready for their forever home. These pups were part of the Fairfield case (read above). If you have room in your heart and your home please consider these lovable furry friends! To see photos and bios of these fun loving pals, visit the Humane Society website at www.humanesc.org.

The Humane Society requires an application process for foster/adoption and placement. Please call us at 803-783-1267 for more information.
