The Humane Society Finds a Friend in Earth Fare
The Humane Society is the Friend of Earth Fare for the month of August! Fun activities, public awareness, and fund raising are the goals for the Humane Society for the month of August at Earth Fare. The month will offer opportunities for patrons of Earth Fare to donate to the Humane Society in various ways while raising awareness of animal welfare.
Among August’s events will be: “Pimp Your Pet” – on Saturday August 8th. Pimp Your Pet is a day at the spa for your four legged friend – Pet Massages ($15) by Lisa Baldwin, CPM and owner of Pawsitively Heaven Pet Massage; pedicures (nail clips and nail polish) ($5); and pamper your pet with a personally hand decorated (by you) collar and leash ($7).
On Saturday, August 22nd say cheese (or Arff/meow)! The Humane Society will offer “Portraits with Your Pet” ($10 a photo).
Rub-a-dub-dub – put that dog in the tub! On August 29th the Humane Society and Earth Fare will host the 2nd Annual Dog Wash ($7 per dog) and “Dollar Dog” hot dog barbeque ($1).
Earth Fare patrons will also be able to support the Humane Society by using recycled bags and/or recycled boxes. For every recycled bag/box used, Earth Fare will donate 5 cents to the Humane Society.
Join us at Earth Fare for the month of August and support the Humane Society!
Humane Society Introduces New Members to Our Team
Two new employees joined the staff of the Humane Society this Summer. Eddie O'Cain joined the Humane Society in July as our Cruelty Investigator. Before joining the Humane Society, Eddie worked with the South Carolina Department of Corrections as the Chief of the Special Investigations Unit. In his free time he and his wife Dawn run a Great Dane rescue, teach dog obedience training, participate in dog shows and care for their horses. Needless to say, Eddie very busy! We are very excited to have him on our team!
Kendra David has joined the Humane Society as a vet tech in the spay/neuter clinic. Prior to joining the Humane Society, Kendra worked for Elgin Veterinary Hospital, Lewis Animal Hospital and Northeast Anical Clinic. Kendra lives in Lugoff with her Fiance, Matt, son Noah, and two dogs Lucy (a Boston Terrier) and Sally (an English Bull Dog). Kendra makes a wonderful addition to our clinic staff!
Welcome to our two newest additions!
2nd Annual Howlin' for Halloween Spay Promotion
In October 2008, the Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter Clinic held a promotion to provide spay surgeries for female cats called Howlin’ for Halloween. That promotion was so successful, we decided to hold it again!
This year, Howlin’ for Halloween will be offering half-price surgeries for female cats throughout the month of October! The cost will be $20.
Howlin’ for Halloween is open to the public. Requirements for female cats are: they must be 7 years old at maximum; must weigh at least 3 pounds; rabies and distemper vaccines required, but can be provided at the time of surgery for $18; animals must be in good health to obtain surgery and will be at the discretion of the attending veterinarian.
Applications can be filled out on-line at www.humanesc.org or by coming by the Humane Society office located at 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209. For more information call the Humane Society at 803-783-1267. Clients do not have to live in the Midlands area to qualify.
Farwell to a Long-Time Friend
Sassy, the Humane Society’s long-time clinic cat passed away in early August. Sassy was an icon of sorts at the Humane Society Clinic, greeting clients and visitors everyday and giving staff their daily needed dose of affection. Sassy was the most senior employee, having been here longer than any other staff member. She will be deeply missed.
