HSPCA Seizes 23 Emaciated Horses in Eastover, SC
The HSPCA seized 23 horses, mostly Arabian, from a pasture in Eastover, SC. HSPCA Investigators and Richland County Sheriff Department Deputies found no traces of food in the pasture or in any of the free standing buildings located on the rented property. A 15 gallon trough was used for watering all 23 horses.
Emaciated, some with bridals embedded into their skin, the horses had no shelter from the weather in the barbed-wire fenced pasture. The case was initiated when members from the Eastover community called the HSPCA to investigate. After getting no cooperation from the owners, the HSPCA partnered with the Richland County Sheriff's Department to issue a search warrant.
All 23 of the horses will be fostered by members of the horse community throughout South Carolina after being accessed by a vet. The HSPCA will be solely financially responsible for all vetting and feeding bills for all 23 horses (and seven dogs - 2 adults and 4 puppies also found on the property with no food or water).
We need your help! The expense of feeding and vetting of these horses is going to be a large financial burden for the HSPCA. Help us by donating online or by mailing a contribution to:
