Beat the Heat! January 2009 Clinic Special

Beat the Heat! January 2009 Clinic Special

A heat wave in January? Well, not yet!

In January the days will start getting longer. Once the days get longer, female cats begin coming into their heat cycles. So winter is the BEST time to spay your female cat, before she goes into heat, eliminating the cat frenzy breeding season, and unwanted litters of kittens.

Each Spring shelters and rescues literally overflow with litters and litters of kittens. Cats are well known for their huge breeding capacity. The problem is that there are so many kittens and not enough homes for them, let alone the hundreds of homeless adult cats waiting to be adopted from shelters.

Spaying your female cat helps you avoid your pet’s next heat cycle, making their surgery less complicated and your life less stressful. Plus spaying helps eliminate the occurrence of certain cancers, like ovarian and uterine, in the future.

Calling all Volunteers!

Calling all Volunteers!

Our Pet Soup project in partnership with Harvest Hope has been in operation for two months, and the requests for pet food from low income families continues to grow every week. In an effort to help us reach as many families as possible, we will be recruiting volunteers to help!

We will need volunteers for: loading pallets of food into our storage unit, packing our van on Thursdays, occasionally packaging food, and of course, helping with the distribution every Friday at Harvest Hope Food Bank.

What ever amount of time you have, whether it be an hour or more would be a great help! If you are interested, please contact Kelly Graham at kgraham@humanesc.org or 803-783-1267 ext. 17.

Happy Howlidays Half Price Clinic Promotion Another Success!

Happy Howlidays Half Price Clinic Promotion Another Success!

To celebrate the holidays and to help pet owners during tough economic times, the Humane Society held the Happy Howlidays promotion for the month of December. Happy Howlidays offered half price surgies for both dogs and cats, males and females! Another hugely successful promotion, Happy Howlidays resulted in over 600 surgeries! And, the best part - all of these pets were sterilized before the peak of breeding/heat season!
